Custom-designed steel joists with flat bottom chords to span gymnasium and common areas, creating efficient and flexible gathering spaces. Close coordination of truss layout and geometry with the mechanical engineering threaded ductwork between the top and bottom chords; exceptional planning with the architect and contractor created a precise ceiling grid that lends a custom design to the open space.
Provided unique steel detailing for the second floor of the two-story classroom wing to support the brick veneer.
Approached site design with the goal of increasing sustainability. Frontage improvements use porous paving to mitigate stormwater, a geothermal well field was placed under the sports field and parking lot, and four rain gardens were created for educational purposes.
Close coordination with SDOT created safe student access at designated on-street stops using wide sidewalks and landscaped transition areas.
