The center includes a walk-in clinic, diagnostic imaging center, lab, ambulatory surgery center, and 22 clinical groups. As part of the Lean  process, nurses, doctors, and other key stakeholders used an early mock-up during the design phase to simulate daily functions. This identified key elements that could be adjusted to optimize employee and patient experiences.

Incorporated lean/integrated design strategies to facilitate open and early collaboration with the general contractor and architect. The team masterfully upgraded a cost-conscious, tilt-up concrete structure by displaying features common to more expensive building techniques.

  • Designed custom panels and thicknesses to feature inset sections of cedar paneling.
  • Coordinated window opening placements that give the building unique patterning.
  • Integrated structural and cladding systems with an innovative precast cladding scheme, minimizing construction cost and reducing the schedule.

Responded to favorable site soil characteristics with an uncommon stormwater infiltration solution. Highly porous underlying soils enhance stormwater infiltration. Working closely with the geotechnical engineer, we created a sub-grade infiltration system that widely disperses runoff through the porous soils.

These infiltration galleries in parking areas and rain gardens prevent pooling during rainstorms, eliminated the need for costly detention systems, and contributed to the project’s sustainable goals.

Despite high groundwater and space constraints that restricted site layout, we optimized placement of the building and on-site parking, enabling the site to handle over 200 vehicles and new utility services.
