Utilized an integrated design process to design something unlike anything the team had achieved before in a short amount of time.

Leveraged experience in the South Lake Union area to coordinate construction, secure permits and work with neighboring sites, ultimately identifying significant cost-savings and expediting and streamlining the project.

Customized structural designs to the unique needs of each floor, understanding the requirements of the future scientist tenants, considering details like floor frequency, and ensuring the space was equipped to support delicate experiments and trials.

Aligned designs with the architectural vision of an open, collaborative workspace by transitioning from the underground garage to the first level with a complex transfer column design, ultimately allowing for research and work spaces to be arranged in a series of “petals” around a six-story, light-filled central atrium.

Preserved historic elements of the Ford and Pacific McKay buildings including the elaborate, original terra cotta façades. Our team collaborated with the historic renovation team to carefully reconstruct the west side of the building.

Collaborated internally as both the structural and civil practices responded to unprecedented engineering challenges presented by extraordinarily poor soil, a below-grade loading dock, and a build that extended 20 feet below the groundwater table.
