To preserve the station for decades to come, Coughlin Porter Lundeen began working to restore the station in a phased series of $50 million renovations.
The first phase restored the roof and repaired four clocks in the iconic clock tower. The second phase addressed the site and provided administrative spaces for Amtrak. The final phase structurally reinforced the load bearing, unreinforced masonry buildings and clock tower by inserting steel plates three to four feet wide throughout, strengthening the structure for generations to come.
