New residence hall fosters living, community, and instruction in one facility. The school updated and centralized its facilities by offering students a 17-story center where community and instruction spaces, housing for more than 400 students, and a gallery combine to create a vibrant educational environment.
Collaborated closely with the project team throughout foundation design to accommodate the tight urban site and the fill soils, as well as minimize the depth of excavation.
Created a distinctive lobby which serves as the campus “Living Room.” Designs in the double-height space include floor-to-ceiling windows, a bold staircase, and a large canopy, creating a memorable first impression, while the hearth, fireside lounge, student gallery walls, and student life and counseling offices drive round-the-clock student activity.
Communicated the school’s emphasis on music and dance via the building’s exterior skin system, which is organized around the structure of rhythm and sheet music.
Supported the creation of the Sky Lounge. Situated on the twentieth floor, the glass-enclosed student lounge features double-height windows, green roofs, city views, and practical amenities.
Maximized living space within residential units and customized the space for Cornish students with “blank canvas” walls, community study rooms, movement studios, practice space, and art studios.
Optimized neighboring Green Streets for pedestrian and bike traffic, coordinating extensively with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and Seattle Department of Construction and Inspection (SDCI) to accommodate expanded sidewalk, colorful paving, landscaping, and public seating.
