Helped create a rigorous and methodical rating system to determine which of four potential locations would be best for this progressive design-build project, the first for the college.

Proposed a shift in the basement location which created much needed MEP space and reduced excavation, yielding more usable square footage and saving time and money.

Took the lead role in material selection and innovative structural framing layouts, providing a virtually column-free atrium space.

Collaborated with the design and construction team to create a visual representation of sustainability. An open channel surrounds the building, directing stormwater runoff from the roof into a bioretention area located prominently near the entry.

Leveraged our extensive campus knowledge to seamlessly integrate utility needs of this new building into the campus infrastructure. This included accommodating previously installed power and communication lines that criss-cross the site to provide critical services to adjacent buildings. It also required detailed mapping to avoid a ground-source well system.

Led a value engineering effort that resulted in a 43-ton reduction in steel to bring structural costs back to Target Value. This was realized through close coordination with the owner to fine tune their programming and vibration requirements.

Worked closely with the steel detailer prior to CD issuance to incorporate all detailing questions into the construction documents. This eliminated steel detailing RFIs, accelerated the fabrication process, and helped keep the project on schedule.
