Designed a comprehensive rainwater management system in which rainwater is collected onsite, treated in rain gardens, and stored in a campus-wide detention facility that is sized to support this residence hall and multiple future structures. Funded by a student grant, the rain garden designs were created in collaboration with students and the stakeholder group.
The location of the site proved challenging with multiple elevations, neighboring structures, and access points to consider. However, our team accommodated the topography and created a functional and beautiful transition from the high end of the site to the lower courtyard via an ADA-friendly pedestrian bridge and ramp. Seating walls and walks with generous widths make the ramp a feature piece of the site design.
Aligned with the college’s plans for future development, ensuring all designs supported campus growth and the future residence halls. Not only did our pre-design work complement the college’s master plan, but our civil team provided infrastructure to accommodate future development:
- A new full-access drive poised to connect north campus to the main campus
- A sewer main positioned both horizontally and vertically to accept sewer systems from future buildings
- A high-capacity stormwater system designed to mitigate stormwater from this and other developments in the future
Ensured that the construction schedule wasn’t compromised by designing and permitting an early site package. Our team presented plans to the city and secured the necessary permits to accelerate site clearing and mass excavation to create the building pad. This early preparation allowed vertical construction to begin right away when final permits were approved.
