This Amazon development includes a collection of projects including The Gallery, Doppler Building, The Park and The Spheres, and Garden Block. A centerpiece in downtown’s Denny Triangle, it features high-rise, mixed-use structures and emphasizes activated streetscapes and an enhanced pedestrian experience.

Working together with the design team and multiple public agencies, the civil team facilitated acceptance by all parties for a fast-track schedule.

In the end, the utility infrastructure was completed within three months of the original 18-month schedule, allowing building construction to begin ahead of schedule.

Additionally, our comprehensive design drawings resulted in zero RFIs during the construction process.

Coughlin Porter Lundeen was instrumental in not only identifying major utility relocations, but also in developing a permitting strategy and process with the City of Seattle and Seattle City Light.

We identified the need to relocate three city blocks of major Seattle City Light high-voltage network infrastructure, all of which had to occur prior to any construction of the first building. Historically, Seattle City Light would not allow a private developer to design and construct this large of an infrastructure relocation, but we developed a comprehensive design, permitting, and construction schedule coupled with a design that exceeded Seattle City Light’s design standards.

The first of its kind in the U.S., the team successfully negotiated permitting of an EcoDistrict within the congested, urban environment of South Lake Union. A testament to innovative engineering, team collaboration, and careful coordination, the project will yield a savings of approximately $224,000 per year for Amazon.
