Our firm provided plan and design services for Salem Hospital’s $180 million replacement program which included campus master planning, a seismic evaluation of the entire campus, 482,000 square feet of new construction, and 126,000 square feet of renovation. A primary component of this master plan was a new nine-story Patient Care Tower that required careful phasing to ensure continuous hospital operation during its construction. Early site and utility construction packages were identified with the contractor to assist with project phasing and provide assurance that all utilities were on-line to test and open the new buildings. This tower utilized the integrated project delivery process over the course of a fast-tracked design schedule. Hospital work also included seismic upgrades as part of renovations on the existing buildings, a central energy plant that provides continuity of operations following earthquakes, and a site improvement and utility path. We also provided the hospital with designs for potential future expansion.
