First United Methodist Church is a three-story structure in Belltown that provides a modern home for Seattle’s oldest congregation. The facility includes a 500-seat sanctuary, administrative offices, Narthex, Fellowship Hall, classrooms, meeting rooms, and a parking garage. A gracious curved stair connects the two primary levels and spills daylight to the lower level. Bisected by an alley, the sloping site required shoring on three sides and complex sequencing due to an existing building onsite. Designed to accommodate a future two-story office addition, the four-level parking garage that accompanies the building includes space for human service outreach programs at the ground level and plantings supported by a green screen.
