With South Lake Union largely undeveloped, Alley24 endeavored to integrate business and living space. The project has proved to be a leading example of what would become a booming science and technology neighborhood. A combination of residential, retail, and office space, the facility was one of the first mixed-use buildings in the U.S. to earn a LEED silver certification. Our civil design team navigated complex utility infrastructure requirements as well as provided unique alley improvements which emphasize pedestrian access, but also successfully integrate vehicles. These improvements augmented the City’s Green Street program. Franchise utilities were also relocated prior to any construction, creating coordination challenges. With broad experience coordinating multiple parties, our engineers worked with SDOT, SCL, and private interests to produce a mutually beneficial solution for all stakeholders.
