This LEED Gold certified 30,000 square-foot community center in the Yesler Terrace neighborhood includes indoor and outdoor activity spaces, a day care center, and a gymnasium. The facility contains multiple sustainable features. Energy efficiency is achieved through the use of daylighting, intelligent lighting systems and natural ventilation. Seattle Parks and Recreation recycled more than 75 percent of demolition and construction debris. The structure features a variety of exposed engineered timber framing. Coordination with the architect and landscape architect was necessary to enable the incorporation of multiple retaining walls to fit the new site improvements and accommodate the steep site grade. Our civil team designed an integrated stormwater system that includes a detention vault incorporated into the surface parking lot.
