UW Medicine expanded their biotechnology and medical research hub in the South Lake Union area with the addition of new lab and office buildings. Home to cutting-edge research, the complex focuses on microbiology, biologic imaging, and cancer vaccines among other disciplines. Phase II included the construction of a laboratory building that can house nearly 900 scientists and employees and Phase III involves design of three seven- and nine-story lab and office buildings with underground parking. Our civil design team rerouted major power lines throughout the site and, despite contaminated soils and a high groundwater table, coordinated utilities with nearby projects to form a comprehensive site design. We further worked on developing a new pedestrian corridor complete with additional greenery and larger walkways.
