A hugely important project to the university and community, the University of Idaho Integrated Research and Innovation Center (IRIC) is a campus centerpiece and a world-class facility designed for research and learning.

  • Supported the university’s unique vision to break from tradition, merging high-end lab, office, and student spaces to create an interdepartmental hub for collaboration and learning.
  • Recognized the IRIC as a campus cornerstone, the team ensured a positive visitor experience; designing with walking-tour routes top-of-mind and executing complex indoor-to-outdoor transitions.
  • Aligned with the university’s vision to do things differently and created an untraditional lab and learning space characterized by unique cladding systems, complicated geometries, and exposed structural elements.
  • Ensured that equipment function flawlessly in the new space by designing for significant vibration requirements. The team even accommodated a mass spectrometer, one of the most vibration-sensitive machines in existence.
  • Maintained ultimate flexibility. A priority to the university, the team’s raised floor system allows the IRIC evolve and be adapted for different researchers’ projects.
