Our firm has worked with Starbucks Coffee Company on nearly 30 structural and civil design projects, beginning with a major seismic retrofit of the nine-story Starbucks Center in 1995. This massive project added steel-braced frames designed to augment the strength of the existing reinforced concrete building, and was constructed in fully occupied spaces with minimal impact on tenants. The project also included the innovative and cost-saving conversion of an adjacent six-story warehouse into a parking garage. Subsequently, our structural and civil teams assisted with construction of Starbucks’ high-tech First Avenue office building, which included preserving a portion of the existing historic façade. After the success of the Starbucks Center renovation, which withstood the Nisqually earthquake with minimal damage and no personal injuries, we assisted Starbucks with a voluntary seismic upgrade of its King Street location to match the seismic performance of its other properties.
In addition to these major projects, our firm provides Starbucks with structural and civil design for tenant improvements varying in size and complexity at numerous locations.
