Named for the historic smokestack on site, Stack House Apartments spans an entire block in the South Lake Union area. Residents can choose from one of 278 units offered in the two seven-story residential towers. Three levels of below-grade parking occur beneath the west half of the block. Our firm provided structural design services for this project and designed the building’s green roof features, which include planting beds, winter gardens, and a solarium for urban agriculture. A particularly unique site component is the Seattle City landmark Supply Laundry Building, a two-story structure. Careful not to impact the historic character of the building, our renovation design focused on the use of as many existing features as possible to complete the necessary seismic upgrades. We also strengthened the 125-foot smokestack from the inside to maintain its industrial aesthetic and highlight it as the cornerstone of the development.
