Partially funded by a Hope VI Grant from the US Department of Housing, Lake City Court is a new four-story complex that includes 86 units dedicated to low-income tenants. The wood-framed, four-story residential units are supported over one level of underground parking. Due to poor soil conditions throughout the site, our structural engineers utilized a deep pile foundation for support. Touted by Seattle Housing Authority as the greenest, most energy-efficient affordable housing development, this complex was designed to use 30 percent less energy than a comparable facility. It has 4,500 square feet of solar panels for electricity; 1,500 square feet of solar panels for domestic hot water and to heat units via a radiator system; Energy Star-rated appliances; and water-conserving fixtures.
