Auburn, WA

Built in the early 1970s, the Green River Community College’s Cedar Hall had developed a multitude of seismic, utility, and access deficiencies. After modernization, the building is now ADA compliant and provides increased classroom space and functionality. Structural work included seismic upgrades, a new sloped roof to house mechanical units, major restructuring of the building’s elevator and stair core, and a dramatic multi-story main entrance. As a result of collaboration between our structural and civil engineers, integrated pathways provide improved ADA access to the building as well as to the rest of campus and a southern parking lot. Per the owner’s request that the site remain a green, lush environment, our firm worked on incorporating exterior features into the greenery-laced site without disturbing or removing most of these natural elements.
