The Everett Clinic’s new Smokey Point medical center was designed to serve Snohomish County and developed using Lean design principles. Construction of the new medical center has allowed The Everett Clinic to better serve its 290,000 patients. The project team used lean design to create custom mock-ups during the design phase, enabling hospital employees to provide critical feedback and help our team improve design efficiency. Coordination with the contractor from the start of the design-build project helped our structural engineers refine our designs to make them more easily constructible. Through inventive design work, we supported construction of a tilt-up concrete structure displaying many of the features common to more expensive building techniques. Our civil engineers coordinated extensively with city permitting officials to design a non-standard stormwater infiltration system, taking advantage of soil characteristics on-site. The project would go on to win a 2013 National Healthcare Design Award.
