Located in the heart of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Broadway Crossing is a five-story building featuring four stories of low-income and affordable housing and one level of retail, as well as two levels of sub-grade parking. Our structural team was faced with many obstacles on the project, including the building’s close proximity to adjacent structures, which made the excavation phase more challenging. The discovery of contaminated soil onsite required elevated coordination and accommodation in design, yet our team remained within the narrow budget of the project. Broadway Crossing received the 2008 Excellence in Construction Award by the Associated Builders and Contractors for a Mixed Use Building and was also the recipient of the 2007 Smart Communities Award. This is the first affordable housing project in Seattle to achieve a LEED Silver rating.
